It is true that all children whether male or female  are gifts from God.But in Nigeria  and other countries,the boy child is held in high esteem than the girl child.Because of this, couples have more children than earlier planned due to their desperation for a male child.In addition, the desire for a male child has resulted to illicit affairs,unstable and unhappy marriages.The belief is that the female child belongs to another family (ie when she gets married)while the male child is the one that carries on with the family name.

There has been different postulations on conceiving a male child.Such as the Billings Method,Shettles method,diet,intercourse positions etc.Here,the focus is on the Billings Method  using the post peak approach to pre select a male child.For the success of this process ,the woman must be able to recognise her peak period.Odebald posit that "the peak period is the last day of any slipperiness.The presence of a fertile type mucus is observed,having a distinctive slippery sensation and the appearance of a raw egg-white(though not always clear in appearance) universally recognisable by fertile women".The thing that is major about the peak period is that it is distinctive and can not be missed.

Billings methods identifies three days following the peak day that is very important.They are the Three Zero Days(ie the three days immediately after the peak).Experts say that conception is likely  to take place on the first zero day,less likely on the second zero day and rare on the third zero day.To conceive a male child,Try either one of these
-You should have intercourse only on the morning of the first zero day or
- Have intercourse in the night of the first zero day and repeat intercourse the next morning or
-Have intercourse on the peak day itself and repeat the next day.

In a study by Mc Sweeney on this subject ,32 couples out of 78 couples of the study group seeking a male child succeeded by using the night of the first zero and the following morning of the second zero day. While 20 couples suceeded by using just the night of the first zero day. 4 suceeded by using  the second zero day. And  22 couples succeeded by using the night of the peak as well as the following day(ie the first zero day).
