The Vitamin That Can Prevent Miscarriages and Birth Defects

A recent breakthrough in research found out that a vitamin has the potential of preventing birth defects and miscarriages.

This was discovered by scientist in Australia, who through a 12-year period of research were able to determine that vitamin B3 can treat NAD (Nicontinamide Adenine Dirucleotide) deficiency in pregnant women.A deficiency that can lead to a baby's organ not forming properly.

Prof Sally Dunwoodie said " Now after 12years of research our team has also discovered that this deficiency can be cured and miscarriages and birth defects prevented by taking a common vitamin".

The investigations that led to this breakthrough was done on a female mice and four human families. To test for the efficacy of vitamin B3,some mice were fed little amounts of the supplement and they produced babies with some abnormalities, while animals fed rich portions of the supplement produced healthy babies.

This breakthrough is believed to have pioneered  a new health care regime for pregnant women where their levels of NAD can be measured to ascertain who is at risk.Pregnant women must also carry their doctors along before taking this supplement.

Foods rich in vitamin B3 (Niacin) are Turkey, chicken, peanut, liver, beef, mushrooms etc.
