Potty Training Your Toddler

There is no doubt that potty training for toddlers requires patience and understanding from parents. It can be an herculean task for you to clean up after your potty in-training toddler combined with having a new baby.Potty training for boys is also quite different from that of girls. Toddlers learn potty training fast when they have an older sibbling.Bear in mind that your child will resist you and the process but do not despair.

During bathing, some mothers as early as six months position the baby in a sitting position to allow them excrete and urinate.By so doing, the child eventually learns that whenever he is put in that pisition he is to do the needful. This is done consistently, especially during morning baths, thus preparing and building the child independence in the eventual potty training process.

Potty training can begin from 18 months,at least the child should be physicalthe earlier the better. It can take some weeks or months for the child to master the process. You can start by buying a nice looking potty.Inform your toddler that the potty is for him and tell him what the potty is for. When your child gets older he can use the toilet.Introduce your child to words such as "pee"and "poo".

Inform her school teacher or care giver that you have started potty training her. Most schools also have their potty training plans for kids.Reduce the number of diapers she takes to school.During the weekends at home do not wear her any diaper but monitor her every 15 -20 minutes,by helping her sit on her potty.Let her potty be close by where she could easily reach it.Wear her loose fitting clothes with a pant underneath and teach her how to pull her pant down when she wants to use her potty.

When she sits on her potty and gets the deed done, you should encourage and praise her.You should also watch out for signs like touching of the genital area and others, that your toddler want to use her potty.Remember that your child will not become a pro overnight and that accidents happen.

During the night, you can continue using diaper but before bed time, you should start the routine of taking your toddler to his potty and if the child wakes up in the middle of the night you can also take him to his potty. And when he wakes up in the morning the first thing is to let him sit on his potty for some minutes. When you notice that your child does not soil his diaper as much as he use to,you can stop the diaper usage. But protect your mattress and continue with the routines.
