I Must Give Birth Like the Hebrew Women, the CS vs V Birth Story

It is no longer news that there is this widespread belief( especially in Nigeria,it could be so in other countries.) that women who give birth through cesarean operation are seen as less of a woman than women who give birth through vagina birth.When family members are informed that their daughter,sister-in-law,wife gave birth or is going to give birth through CS there is this perception that the person is inadequate, and has failed.VB is termed as normal while CS is seen as abnormal.Many women have died because they refused doctors advice and insisted on VB.This situation is very disturbing.

You hear pregnant women making statements like ,"i will give birth like the hebrew women".A religious belief which is obviously not fully understood.It is good to give birth like the Hebrew women but you should bear in mind that these women were slaves exposed to hard labour.And it is a fact that physical activities eases the delivery process.When these women who have zeroed their minds on VB gives birth through CS they feel that God has deserted them and when they tell friends and relations their birthing story 'most of them' are ashamed to say they gave birth through CS.During antenatal sessions, you hear expectant mothers praying against CS.

Some women also say they insist on VB because CS is costlier,the recovery process is very tasking and longer.Some of the reasons why CS is carried out could be because of the position of the baby,foetal distress,prolonged labour,multiple births, health challenges of the mother, placenta and pelvis issues,cord prolapse, etc.It is apparent that the society needs a reorientation;they need to know that CS is okay,that it is not every woman that will give birth through VB and that a woman who does CS is not a lesser woman.

One needs to do some research to understand both the CS and VB process.Ask your doctor questions as regards your birthing options.When your doctor says its best you do CS its good you follow his advice especially  in situations of emergency CS.Otherwise, you can do your findings and seek for second opinion from another doctor.

To me, a successful birthing story or giving birth like the hebrew women; is mother and baby alive and healthy not this needless issue on who is a better woman built on giving birth the VB  or the CS way.No woman should die giving birth when the CS option is available.
