Get to Know if it's Safe to Breastfeed while Pregnant

 Many mothers are faced with the dilemma of whether it is safe to breastfeed while pregnant.This concern is deepened by the narrative that doing so could lead to miscarriage.

Well,let's look at a scenario;a mother has a seven months old toddler who she breastfeeds and recently found out she is pregnant.Her body needs to provide breastmilk for her older child and cater for the growing foetus.

Pregnancy especially in the first and last trimester can be ardous talk more of adding breastfeeding with it. A woman who goes through both process may experience exhaustion or mummy's burnout. Another belief is that through breastfeeding the nipple is stimulated which may lead to the release of a hormone called oxytocin that may contract the uterus thus resulting in miscarriage.

Well,no worries!you can actually do both.It is generally safe and it does not lead to miscarriage. All you need to do is ensure you are taking your antenatal medicines,eating balanced diet and getting plenty of rest.

That said,you should ask for help when you need it as both breastfeeding and growing a baby in your womb is hardwork.This help could be from your husband,friends or relatives.A support system is essential at this point.

If you want to continue breastfeeding your toddler after you have put to bed ensure that your newborn receives colostrum (ie the antibody rich yellowish  breastmilk).At this time your toddler should have breastmilk as his/her secondary food while other foods serves as the basic one.So you can concentrate more on breastfeeding the newborn.
