Fun Activities For Kids To Teach Telling Time

Teaching your kids to tell time takes patience but it can be fun as the kid stumbles over with wrong guesses until when the kid starts to understand the concept of time and how to tell time correctly. From age five, the kid is ripe to start to learn the basics about telling time. Here are some fun activities to teach kids to tell time.

  • Identify the clock

Teaching kids how to tell time starts with identifying the clock and its functions. This can be done by taking the kid to the clock or even allowing the kid to hold it and feel how it is, get curious with the ticktock. You can also draw a clock on a board or paper and teach from it.

  • Identifying the hands and their functions

It’s fun for the kid and the parent or guardian when teaching kids how the hands of the clock move and their different functions. One hand is very fast, which is the seconds hand and the other two, the hour and minutes are not; and one amongst the two that are not fast, the hour hand doesn’t even show signs that it is moving.

  • The dots and the numbers

One fun activity for kids to teach telling time is to teach them about the functions of the dots indicating the seconds and the numbers starting with the divisions: quarters and half.

  • The analogue and digital clocks

It is also important that kids know the difference between the analogue clock and the digital clock. They all tell time but with different displays; once a kid can read the analogue clock, reading a digital clock will be easier.

  • Teach the number of hours that makes a day

When your kid starts to gain understanding, you can start teaching days: the number of hours that make a day etc.

A kid that understands the concept and value of time is on the way to start making good use of time and getting organized. Fun activities for kids to teach telling time make a good firsthand material for parents and guardians.

Bonne Chance!!
