What To Expect During your Postpartum Checkup

Congrats you and your bundle of joy are in good shape, but that doesn’t mean you will have to neglect the place of a doctor. It is best you keep your doctor’s appointments. They are very important even after safe delivery as checkups help to ensure total healing, detect an infection before it worsens, prevent unwanted pregnancies amongst others. Most doctors carry out postpartum checks six weeks after vaginal delivery and two weeks after a CS operation.

Most newbie moms ask if they should carry their baby along for postpartum examination; well, it is optional but I recommend that your baby should always be carried along. And if I will quickly add, it doesn’t make you a less caring mom if you don’t carry your baby along. Postpartum checkups are specifically for mothers.

Postpartum checkups are not stressful per say, they are like every other checkups except there was complication during delivery.

The basic check includes:

  • Your belly and abdomen, for movement and the size; if it is swollen, or it is normal

  • Your breasts will be examined if you are lactating properly and if there is infection etc.

  • It is important your weight is checked to know if you are adding or reducing to determine your state of health.

  • The examination includes your blood pressure and pulse

  • And if you had a CS, your operated area will also be examined.

At the postpartum checkup, feel free to ask your doctor any question that bothers you. Your wellbeing is very important.

Cheers
