Essentials to Buy Before Birth in Nigeria



Some pregnant moms want to know the right time to start buying baby essentials and what to buy. Well,you can start buying when you are in the 5th-6th months of pregnancy and ensure to buy the basics because most times, many moms do not get to use every item on the list.Instead of buying baby items that will never be used you can as well channel that money into other pressing issues.

The list of essentials to buy in Nigeria before birth for both the expectant mum and her baby includes:

For Baby

Blankets:

This will be needed at the hospital to wrap the baby after washing immediately after delivery at the hospital and thereafter used at home. Blankets are also used for making the baby’s crib warm and comfortable.

Clothing:

An infant needs more change of clothes than an adult,the tip here is that you should purchase few newborn clothing and more of 1-3 months clothing because newborns tend to grow fast .You can buy 5-6 long sleeve and short sleeve body suits,5 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of hand warmers, 3 pairs of caps,3 burp cloths, undershirts,booties and sweater.

Feeding

If you intend to breastfeed you may need a nursing pillow,on the other hand,if you plan to bottle feed here are the items you can purchase:feeding bottles, flasks, bottle warmer,sterilizing unit, bibs,breast bump and storage bags,bottle brush and cleaner,etc.

Bathing and Grooming

You need baby soap,lotion or moisturizer, towels,baby bath and a pack of washcloths.Others are laundry rack,diapers,wipes,vaseline and diaper bag.For grooming,hair brush or comb,nail cutter and thermostat.

Others

Some women say they regretted buying a baby cot and mattress as their baby never used it.However, this may be different for you,as you can purchase a crib,mattress, sheets,rocking chair,mobile crib and mosquito nets,prams,car seat,baby carrier,bouncer or rocker and baby play mat.

For Mummy

Things that the expectant mum needs include:several packs of maxi pads for lochia,nursing bras and pads, nipple cream,loose button down shirts or gowns for easy feeding,a wrapper,night wear, toothpaste and toothbrush,towel,slippers and disposable pants.Do not forget to add beverages and other essentials you would like close by during your short stay at the hospital.
