How To Guide Your Children To Have the Right Friends

Our kids are our special treasures, we as parents need to at every stage of their upbringing make sure that they are heading in the right direction; this doesn’t just stop at giving them quality education, instilling values in them, etc, but extends to making sure that they have the right friends. Man is a social being, so friendship is also a significant part of life. However, the kind of friends your kids keep should be a major concern to you as a parent given that friends can be positive or negative influencers.

It is true that not all kids are friendly, some children are very reserved, but we can teach them to open up; no one single person is an island. If he has special skills, there is no need to hide them. If he is in a gathering, encourage him to contribute to the discussion.

First is to teach your child to also be a good friend. Being a good friend means that your child should also be friendly. If he is friendly and exhibits good manners, even as you guide your kids to make good friends, other parents will also guide their kids towards your child as a good friend.

Behaviors that attract good friendships are: truthfulness, being trustworthy, being well behaved,  good morals etc. Teach your child discipline. A child who is disciplined and obeys his parent’s instructions will not accept an undisciplined child as a friend. Teach your child to respect those that are his seniors.

Practically be your child’s model. Make your kids to understand the kind of people you will want around them; kids that obey their parents, kids that are law abiding, kids that are from good homes; homes where peace and obedience are enforced.

If you will ensure and also assist your kids to have good friends then you cannot be far from their social life. You have to be directly involved, be their coach, their first good friend and leader.
