Get to Know What is Happening in Your Body in the 1st Trimester of Pregnancy

With the joy that comes with getting pregnant, a lot happens to both mother and baby till the delivery date. Some of these experiences are actually not convenient or palatable, but the joy of holding your baby after delivery douses it. A pregnancy normally lasts for 40 weeks and the weeks are grouped into three trimesters.

The first trimester is the first week of pregnancy to the twelfth week and this period of time is very remarkable in the life of the expectant mother especially if it is her first experience. Now,you should start taking prenatal vitamins and  ensure to eat right.

A lot of hormonal changes occur in the expectant mother’s  body system at this early stage of pregnancy. The uterus also expands at this time to accommodate the new occupant. Constipation and appetite for unusual foods(or foods previously detested before pregnancy) is common with most women at this period of pregnancy . Other common reactions are: morning sickness, nausea, mood swing due to chemical reactions in the body, heartburn and sore breasts amongst others.

Research has shown that the baby grows more at this early stage of pregnancy than any other trimester of the pregnancy. At six weeks the heartbeat can be felt and by the end of this trimester the fingers and toes would have separated i.e., not webbed anymore.Other first trimester milestones are the  development of the brain, digestive system ,bones, hair and nails, eye sight, sense of taste and touch , development of the external genital organs, formation of muscles, production of white blood cells and the development of vocal cords.

If you are feeling miserable at this stage, don't you worry as the second trimester may give you some level of relief before the third trimester starts.
