How to Select Books For Your Children Age Wise


 Books are sources of information and a child should be availed with books; work books, story books,etc. Children understand the content of a book according to their level of development and age. It is best to give the child a book that is age appropriate so that the child can understand the content and also be able to relate with it. When buying a book for your child, follow these suggested methods to select age appropriate books.

   

  1. Be the judge

As a parent, you are also saddled with the responsibility to determine what is beneficial and what is not for your child. Knowing the level of your child’s understanding is key to selecting books for your children. You have the first choice to determine if the particular book is age appropriate for your child. 


  1. Read the introduction

Another method is by reading the introduction of the book, you could read a few pages to know its content before you make your decision to buy the book or not to.


  1. Check for grammar and vocabulary

You can do a quick check of the grammar, vocabulary,wordings,tone etc to know if the book meets your standard before buying. 


  1. Clear illustrations

Children love illustrations especially colorful illustration,it helps them understand things better.Also, check if the illustrations are simple and clear for quick understanding.


  1. Five finger check

Many parents have succeeded in buying books for their children by doing the five-finger check. It is an easy and fun to use method; let the child read one or two paragraphs of the book and note with the fingers the number of words not understood, if they are up to five in the select paragraph, then the book is not for your child’s age.  


  1. Check the age listed

One other method is to check the age bracket listed on the book. That doesn’t mean that you do not need to see the content or the introduction, but it guides you on what you should buy. 


  1. Suggestions

You can also get suggestions and inputs from other parents.This will help to you make better purchase decisions. 


Remember that a child that has reading habits will be far more knowledgeable than his or her contemporaries.
