Grandma and grandpa have been parents too, so babysitting should not be a challenge. However, some of the standards and equipment that were used before may have changed; toys are now more computerized etc.However, most grand parents are dependable when it comes to babysitting.These tips will certainly help:



  1. Have basic first aid knowledge

Basic first aid knowledge is very necessary for a grandparent that babysits. Kids play a lot and are susceptible to sustaining injury etc. A babysitting grandparent should know how use a plaster, how to dress injury etc. 


  1. Knowledge of how to wear diaper and how to remove it

Being a babysitting grandparent is like being a nursing parent again. A whole lot of knowledge needs to be acquired again, like how to wear the kid diaper without much discomfort and how to remove a diaper without messing up the space. 


  1. Dedication

Every grandparent that babysits should learn to be dedicated to the job, it will be of disservice to the baby and the parents if the job is done haphazardly. Kids need undivided attention; they should have it on demand. 


  1. Do not leave baby unattended to

Baby sitting will be fun for a grandparent that babysits if he or she knows these basic rules, one rule of the thumb is; do not leave baby unattended to. It is dangerous and can also result to accident if a child is left unattended to. 


  1. Learn the bottle skills

Feeding the child with the bottle is a skill that needs to be acquired; nursing mothers learn it; it is important that a babysitting grandparent learn it also.


  1. Keep cellophane materials away

Cellophane has been reported to have caused the death of many kids by suffocation, a babysitting grandparent is advised to keep all cellophane material away from baby’s crib and play area etc. 

  1. Keep medicines away

After administering medication, it is advised that all medicine should be kept away from baby’s reach. Some of these medicines are sweet and a baby may be attracted to them and take in over dose if not kept away. 


Grandparents are experienced babysitters, they are very reliable; however, they need to upgrade their knowledge to current times.
