Parenting is an all encompassing activity; it is not only providing food, shelter and clothes etc.Mentoring and nurturing are also comprehensive components of parenting.The child’s well being and performance in school is far beyond making sure the child eats before going to school and having a well stocked lunch pack; these are part of it, but there are overlooked things that can make your child do better in school. Parents may not be aware of them or they just don’t see them as important. 


  1. Teaching your child to study

It is important that parents realize that the child starts his or her study from home. The child also concludes his day to day study at home. The extended study time is the parent’s duty. This overlooked activity can make the child do better in school if it is taken into cognizance; teach your child the right study skills.


  1. Teach your child to be organized with his studies

This overlooked activity also has the potential to make your child do better in school. Teach your child to have a study plan. He should know the time to play, the time to do assignments and time for siesta etc.


  1. Be part of his home study

Being part of your child’s home study is also like being his home teacher, take part in his assignments, grant advice and correction where necessary, inspect his books and know how he or she is developing academically. It is a sure booster for the child’s better performance in school.


  1. Attend your child’s parent’s school meetings

Most parents do not take these meetings as important; they are very important. Endeavour to attend these meetings whenever you are invited as a parent or as a guardian. Notify the school of your kid’s challenges; tell the school management your expectations. It will boost your child’s performance in school when your suggestions and observations are put into effect.


  1. Motivate you child to study

This sounds simple so it is mostly overlooked but it has the potential to make your child perform better in school. Tell your child he is trying but he can do better. Encourage your child with sweet words; make him understand the value of education.
